2.6. "Khan Sar Chat Lay Myar" Helpline
Metanoia established the “Khan Sar Chat Lay Myar (Little Emotions)” Helpline in April 2020 with the support of UNICEF Myanmar to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the beginning, the Helpline aimed to support children and caregivers as well as frontline workers of the COVID-19 response to increase access to education; offer accurate information about COVID-19, and deliver MHPSS services to improve their wellbeing. The pilot program was started on April 13, 2020, and the full operation of the Helpline was initiated on May 20, 2020. The Helpline was run from 9 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday and the activities included emotional support via phone lines, virtual group activities for children, youth, and parents, and referral to screening and psychotherapy services. The activities were scaled up in 2021 and the services were provided in four ethnic languages. After the end of the funding contract by the end of 2021, the Helpline was continued with trained volunteer operators from 2 pm to 5 pm (Monday to Friday).
